Missouri senators vote to place tougher regulations on sexually oriented businesses in the state.

Walk into your local porn shop... and, soon, that step alone could cost you five bucks.

Missouri senators passed a bill that would require sexually oriented businesses to pay a five dollar admission tax for each person who walks through the door.

Jackson County Republican Matt Bartle sponsored the bill.

Contents: "If you look at all these sexually oriented businesses and where they're popping up all over the state, people are embarrassed by it, and it makes it look like Missouri's porn central.

Last year, Bartle sponsored a bill to restrict the ability of adult businesses to advertise on highway billboards.

Tougher restrictions on the state's porn industry inch closer to becoming law.

Senators passed a bill that would force porn shops to impose a five dollar admission fee on every person who walks through the door.

The bill would also create a 20 percent gross receipts tax on porn shops and strip clubs.

These taxing moves have opponents in the Senate like St. Louis County Democrat Rita Days saying the GOP is going back on its own promises.

Contents: "Republicans have said they don't want tax increases on anything, yet they have decided to take out a certain segment of the population and enact additional taxes on those people. I don't think that's right. I think it's very hypocritical.

Days says she has no doubt the House will also pass the bill and that the new law could possibly wind up in court.

State senators pass tighter restrictions on the state's porn industry.

It's no secret that Jackson County Republican Matt Bartle is waging war on Missouri's porn industry.

Last year, the senator sponsored a bill to stop adult businesses from advertising on highway billboards.

Now, the Senate has passed his bill to tax such businesses for every person walking through their doors.

But, even with this victory, Bartle says he's under no illusion that the bill is out of the woods yet.

Contents: "The porn industry is highly organized. They have gobs of money. They have a lobbyist that works in this building and has excellent contacts in the legislature, so I'm just hopeful that the House will see the importance of passing this bill."

In addition to the five dollar admission tax, the bill aims to create a 20 percent gross receipts tax on porn shops and strip clubs... and would force them to close at 10 p.m.
