JEFFERSON CITY - Friends and family of 16 National Guardsmen said their goodbyes at the Jefferson City National Guard Armory.

The National Guard chose these soldiers because of their experience and training.

While the specifics of the mission are unknown, the unit will be training the Afghan National Army in combat.

    JEFFERSON CITY - Gubernatorial Candidate Claire McCaskill says rural Missouri is not getting the attention it needs and proposes an eight-point plan to revamp the areas.

    McCaskill is running against Gov. Bob Holden for the Democratic nomination for governor.

    . Judge considers dismissal of a challenge to Missouri's gun control law (6/8/04)

    JEFFERSON CITY - Based on the Attorney General Jay Nixon's request, Circuit Judge Thomas Brown is considering dismissal of a suit that asks the judge to declare the state's gun control law unconstitutional. Nixon said the issue is not yet ripe for a decision. Brown plans to make his decisionregarding the dismissal within the next few days.

    JEFFERSON CITY - The Public Service Commission held a hearing today to fine-tune a new rule that would prevent Missourians from paying for utility services that they didn't receive. The rule developed after the Commission received serveral complaints from customers who were denied utility services because they were misidentified as having unpaid bills.

    JEFFERSON CITY - In a 6-1 per curiam decision, the Missouri Supreme Court denied the writ of mandamus but held that the Secretary of State has the duty to place the proposed state constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage on the August 3, 2004, ballot.

    JEFFERSON CITY - The court heard lawyers for both the Attorney General and the Secretary of State argue their case concerning the timing of this controversial vote. Republican Secretary of State Matt Blunt says he didn't get the proper paperwork in time to get the proposed constitutional amendment ready for August. Now the Attorney General is asking the court to mandate Blunt to do his job.
