The senate adopts a measure to form an independent mutual insurance company. Matt Johnson tells how this company will help better insure doctors against malpractice suits.
The Missouri Insurance Coaltion's executive director Calvin Call says--right now--only one company exists to represent doctors in malpractice suits.
He says financial concerns are the reason for a lack of similar companies in the state.
"Competition has either left the state or gone out of business mainly because any oppourtunity to underwrite and make a profit in the business is long since gone...the system is broken in Missouri."
The Missouri Physicians Mutual Insurance Company Act will insure doctors who have trouble finding a lawyer to accept their case.
From the state Capitol, I'm Matt Johnson.
