Wrap: The resolution was heard by the Government Oversight Committee.

Supporters of the resolution say bringing in outside perspectives would help the UM System get back to a place of prominence.

Republican Tom Hurst of Meta said he's not opposed to the ideas in the resolution, but that he doesn't know if it will spark any change.

Run Time: 00:15
Description: And so I guess I'm frustrated that the fact that what we have there now ignores us, or me at least. I'm not so sure a commission's gonna do any good if it's among us or among people like me that are appointed to this board.
Other committee members were concerned with the lack of diversity requirements for commission appointments.

Two committee members asked questions regarding the lack of diversity requirements for commission appointments.

Republican Caleb Rowden from Columbia said the resolution aims to bring in outside perspectives.

Run Time: 00:09
Description: I think the idea was to bring broader, additional perspectives to the table to help this be as effective and productive as it can be.
The resolution currently states the commission will have eight members, four appointed by the Speaker and four appointed by the President Pro Tem.

Wrap: A lobbyist for the University of Missouri, Marty Oetting, spoke in support of legislation that would review the university system.

The legislation creates a commission of eight members, four chosen by the Speaker and four chosen by the President Pro Tem.

Oetting said the university is open to changes the commission may have.

Actuality:  OETTING.WAV
Run Time: 00:14
Description: We're always open to good ideas, I think the board is open to that and so whether it's this commission or any other group that comes forward with recommendations or observations of what happened last year and how the university could handle it better, I think they're open to those suggestions.
Oetting said that if there were any changes the university did not like, that they would explain why.
