Bill brings tractors to parades, laughter to House

State Capitol Bureau

Intro: One man's tractor parade is another man's comic relief. The Missouri House voted to ease restrictions banning some tractors from parades, but the debate wasn't completely serious. Rebecca Beitsch (b-EYE-ch) has more from the State Capitol. RunTime:0:49

Some Missouri House Representatives fear that current laws preventing tractors from being in parades are hindering fund-raising.

But St. Louis County Democrat Jake Zimmerman wasn't so serious on the last day before legislative spring break. Zimmerman playfully joked about the influence of tractors in his urban district, saying "If tractor parades are outlawed, only outlaws will have tractor parades."

Description:  "Every day in the 83rd district Mr. Speaker, people are clamoring to hold tractor parades. But they are prevented by our cruel and unjust statutes. Mr. Speaker, this must be fixed."

Despite the laughs and generous applause that followed, the bill passed 158-0.
