The Boeing Company, which has a base in St. Louis, was a major backer of the bill that would disclude taxes on defense items it sells to foreign nations.

Dennis Moeller, a Boeing representative, noted that other states already have similar regulations.

Description: This bill will allow Missouri to be on equal footing with other states such as Kansas and Illinois, that have major aerospace and defense industries that already exempt such transactions.

Dempsey asked that the bill be placed on the consent calendar, meaning it could be passed with a short voice vote in the Senate.

Other states with major defense and aerospace programs, such as Kansas and Illinois, have already supported similar regulations in their states that would allow the tax breaks to such companies.

Dempsey said that a similar regulation could help support Missouri companies, such as The Boeing Corporation, which has a base in St. Louis.

Description: Boeing is a major employer of the state of Missouri.  It wouldn't change any existing tax law in the state.

The U.S. Constitution already allows weapons sales to go untaxed; the bill merely backs up such laws.

No one testified in opposition to Dempsey's proposal.
