Conservation area around Callaway nuclear plant closed

While the nation is on high alert for terrorist attacks, Missouri is securing sensitive areas.

Christopher Shields reports from Jefferson City.

The state is closing the conservation area around the Callaway Nuclear power plant to the public.

This comes as the nation goes to a high terrorism alert.

Conservation department offical Bob White says the department made the move after it was known war was impending.

White says the conservation area may stay closed for the duration of the war.

The state is closing off to the public the conservation area around the Callaway Nuclear facility.

Ameren UE owns the land around the facility but State Homeland Security Director Tim Daniel says the state made the decision to close the site.

The conservation department says the area may stay closed for the duration of the war.

In response to the terrorist threat level being raised to orange, the state is closing the conservation area around the Callaway Nuclear power plant.

State Homeland security director Tim Daniel says the state was ready for the quick closing.

An official at the conservation department says the area may stay closed to the public for the duration of the war.

With the nation's terrorism alert already at high, Missouri is closing sensitive areas around the state.

Are state office buildings next?

I'm Christopher Shields for Missouri Capitol Caucus.

The state's already closed the conservation area around the Callaway Nuclear power plant, citing concerns over war and the code orange terrorism alert.

But, state homeland security director Tim Daniel says Governor Holden will only consider closing state office buildings, including the capitol, if the terror alert reaches code red.

Daniel says the governor has no plans to close state office buildings at the moment.
