Republican lawmakers are trying to overturn Governor Bob Holden's veto of a controversial tort reform bill. Aidian Holder has the story.

The bill began as an attempt to limit medical malpractice awards . . . but Republican lawmakers added provisions that would affect all types of civil lawsuits. As well as putting caps on pain and suffering awards in malpractice suits, the bill limits where a trial can be held and prevents wealthy corporations from having to cover the tab for poorer co-defendants.

Senate President Pro Tem Peter Kinder says lawmakers need to change the entire tort system . . . not just medical malpractice.

Senate Minority Leader Ken Jacob disagrees with Kinder's view.

GOP lawmakers have lumped malpractice law with the broader issue of lawsuit limits in general, and Kinder promises to blame Democrats for the high price of malpractice insurance during next year's election if they don't support the GOP's bill
