JEFFERSON CITY - A taped incident between Gov. Carnahan's bodyguard and a TV cameraman is the talk of the State Capitol. Some GOP lawmakers are sharpening their knives in anticipation of debate Tuesday over Carnahan's office budget.

JEFFERSON CITY - In a 86-68 vote the House rejected a bill aimed at eliminating wage discrimination in the work place. It would have made it illegal for employers to create jobs with different titles, involving essentially the same work but paying unequally.

    . Stadium debate sneaks its' way onto budget debate in Senate (04/19/00)
    JEFFERSON CITY - A budget discussion on the floof of the Senate had a surprise guest on Wednesday - debate on funding for the new stadium in St. Louis. Senator Sarah Steelman voiced objection to the current argument that allows St. Louis to use state sales tax to invest in the new ballpark.
    . State Auditor criticizes university retirement contracts (04/19/00)
    JEFFERSON CITY - Norm Stewart's golden parachute caught fire from Missouri's state auditor on Wednesday.

    The main criticism Claire McCaskill raised is that he will be paid $125,000 per year to raise money for the university before he does any actual work.

    Stewart's contract is one of three retirement contracts that McCaskill called "inappropriate."

    . Governor's bodyguard manhandles a TV cameraman (04/18/00)
    JEFFERSON CITY - A bodyguard for Missouri Gov. Mel Carnahan pushed and held back a KTVI-TV cameraman last week.

    Now, a videotape of the incident and Carnahan have each offered a different take on the just what exactly happened.

    KTVI-TV is the Fox affiliate in St. Louis.

    . Senate strips $157 million from the Office of Administration budget (04/18/00)
    JEFFERSON CITY - Mexico Sen. Joe Maxwell says he proposed the cut to force the agency to disclose provider bids for consolidated health care.

    He says state employees in his district are paying too much for health care.

    . Amusement park accidents rouse legislation (04/18/00)
    JEFFERSON CITY - The Senate's General Laws Committee has sent stronger legislation of amusement rides to the Senate floor.

    The tearful testimony of a woman whose child died after falling from an amusement park ride preceeded the committee's decision.

    . Republican spokesman wondering what's taking so long (04/18/00)
    JEFFERSON CITY - Republican spokesman Darryl Duwe is raising a ruckus about Governor Carnahan's office refusing to provide the governor's travel records.

    Duwe made his original request last November, but has yet to receive a response.

    After receiving Duwe's latest request, the governor's office says they hope to have an official response by Friday.

    JEFFERSON CITY - If you work for the University of Missouri and have hearing trouble, you might have to pay thousands of dollars for the same devices others get for free.

    . Governor doesn't apologize for scuffle between his security staff and cameraman. (04/18/00)
    JEFFERSON CITY - Soon after a reporter and cameraman from St Louis approached the governor Friday at the Jefferson City Airport, Sergeant Elbert Marshall, a member of the governor's security staff and a highway patrol officer, shoved the cameraman.

    The governor doesn't apologize for the incident and the head of the Highway Patrol defends the Marshall's actions.

    . Deceased firefighters honored (04/18/00)
    JEFFERSON CITY - At a ceremony in the State Capitol's rotunda Tuesday, Gov. Mel Carnahan honored the seven firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty last year.

    Plans are now underway for a memorial in Kingdom City, 20 miles east of Columbia on I-70.

    . The Senate racial profiling bill was passed by a House committee that also discussed another type of profiling (04/18/00)
    JEFFERSON CITY - During the discussion on racial profiling, Gracia Backer brought up the issue of geographical profiling.

    She says she has been the victem of it.

    . Bill would make state financially responsible for St. Louis roads (04/17/00)
    JEFFERSON CITY - The House gave preliminary approval to a bill that would take the financial burden of road repairs off the city of St. Louis.

    Legislators debated about where the money would come from.

    They ended up deciding it should come from the transportation fund, but the amount given to the city shouldn't exceed the amount given to counties.

    . Senate approved making term-limits four years longer (04/17/00)
    JEFFERSON CITY - Missouri Senate approved Tuesday a measure that makes the current eight-year term limits four years longer.

    The bill, sponsored by Sen. John Schneider, seeks the best possible balance between experience and new faces in the legislative process.
