State Democrats Support Gore

November 29, 2000
By: Rodger Oakes
State Capital Bureau

State Democrats overwhelmingly voice support for Gore's efforts. I'm Rodger Oakes for Missouri Capitol Caucus.

Although Governor George W. Bush was certified as winner of Florida's 25 electoral votes, the war for the White House rages on in Florida courts and soon the United States Supreme Court.

In an informal survey conducted by Missouri Capitol Caucus Reporters, elected Democrats agreed with Vice President Al Gore's decision to fight the Florida results.

Most Statehouse democrats say Gore is following the law. Few had worries about any future backlash against the Democratic Party as a result of the Vice President's actions.

Governor-elect Bob Holden said every vote needs to be counted and agrees with Gore's fight.

Actuality:hldpres
RunTime: 11.2s
OutCue: "move forward."
Contents: Holden says that this is the upholding of the principles of democracy and he hopes that it will be over soon so the country can move forward.

Some democrats cautioned that the patience of the people might be wearing thin. Representative Ted Farnen said Gore needs to be careful even though he has the right to challenge the election.

Overall, Missouri Democrats support Gore's challenges, but are also looking for a winner to be announced soon.

For Missouri Capitol Caucus, I'm Rodger Oakes, Jefferson City.
