Democrats accused of Election Fraud

November 7, 2000
By: Rodger Oakes
State Capital Bureau

This is Rodger Oakes for Missouri Capitol Caucus.

The top of the ticket defeated Republican candidates have announced, separately, they will not challenge Tuesday's elections results.

Both U.S. Senator John Aschroft and defeated Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Jim Talent say they accept the outcome that sends them into private life.

But not all Republicans are giving up so easily.

Chairman of the Missouri Republican Party, Ann Wagner, says the election was one of the most scandalous in Missouri history. But, she didn't stop there.

Wagner says there were ballots left unattended and people were allowed to vote even after the St. Louis court order to close the polls. Wagner also attacked the national Democratic Party.

Wagner says a federal investigation, possibly headed up by Senator Kit Bond, is needed and will be pursued to determine the validity of the election.
