2018 Bill(s)
CCS HB 1633 Sponsor:Corlew, Kevin Status: Conference: CCR to S Description: Restrict when a judge must instruct a jury about lesser included offenses in a criminal case. Restrict judicial review of a conviction on the basis that the defense did not request lesser included offenses instructions. Relates to Keith Meiners v. Mo. in which the state Supreme Court rejected overturning a murder conviction because the defendant's attorney did not request the judge for instructions on a lessor-included offense possibility (manslaughter rather than 2nd degree murder).

Note: The descriptions of bills, amendments and roll-call votes are written by MDN journalists. MDN's database may not include committee assignments of bills made on the last day of the session since it is too late for the committee to act on the bill and, thus, the delayed assignment has no practical effect.
