Wrap: Nixon's comments came a day after Ferguson Mayor Jason Knowles criticized Nixon to a panel of lawmakers for the governor's lack of communication when the grand jury decision came out.

Nixon said he understands that businesses were destroyed, but is thankful to those who stood on the front line the night of the grand jury's decision.

Description: "But when you put that in context, to what would have happened if a law enforcement officer or a National Guardsman had lowered their weapon and shot another unarmed Missourian, where we would be today."

He praised the men and women of the police force and the National Guard for never firing their weapons at the protesters.
