Heavy rains will not allow MoDOT to pretreat roads for potential snow

Date: January 29, 2013

State Capitol Bureau

Intro:
Heavy rain storms throughout the St. Louis area and statewide are keeping the Missouri Department of Transportation from pretreating the roads for possible snow and wind storms in the coming days.
RunTime:  0:35
OutCue:  SOC

Wrap: MoDOT crews will be watching the forecast closely as the rain is expected to turn into snow.

MoDOT's St. Louis district maintenance engineer Becky Allmeroth says roads that are already wet can be very slick if the temperature drops.

Actuality:  ALL3.WAV
Run Time:  00:12
Description: " A lot of times especially with that rain out front, and the pavement still wet, and a lot of those black ice conditions, you just got to pay attention to those and watch everything closely and give a little extra room between you and the car in front of you in the morning."

Allmeroth also says MoDOT crews are prepared, and have the trucks ready to go as soon as the precipitation changes.
