RunTime:  0:39
OutCue:  SOC

Wrap: The bill proposed would cap donations for candidate campaigns at $5,000 and would require contributions of more than $2,000 be reported within 48 hours.

Democratic Representative Tishaura Jones sponsors the bill and says ethics reform needs to be a priority and lawmakers need to be held accountable.

Actuality:  JONES01.WAV
Run Time:  00:03
Description: "Missouri is considered the wild wild west when it comes to ethics law."

House Speaker Republican Steve Tilley says it's just like any other bill - and not one of his priorities.

Democrats say this legislation is based on the 2010 law that the Missouri Supreme Court struck down in February because of how it was passed.

Intro:
After the Missouri Supreme Court threw out a 2010 ethics reform law because of the way it was approved, House Democrats have proposed a new ethics measure.
RunTime:  0:46
OutCue:  SOC

Wrap: The proposed bill would cap campaign contributions at $5,000 and require contributions of more than $2,000 be reported within 48 hours.

Democrats say ethics reform needs to be a priority this legislative session, but House Speaker Republican Steve Tilley says it's just like any other bill.

Actuality:  TILLEY01.WAV
Run Time:  00:07
Description: "I wouldn't say it's a priority because I have probably 15,000 bills that have been filed but I'll treat it like I will any other bill and if it's filed I'll refer it."

Democratic Representative Tishaura Jones says that's not acceptable.

Actuality:  JONES02.WAV
Run Time:  00:05
Description: "I'm disappointed to hear that it's not a priority, but the citizens of Missouri think it's a priority."

The bill would also give the Missouri Ethics Commission more authority - among more than a dozen other major points in the more than 160-page bill.
