After the St. Louis Police Association has testified against local control numerous times, on Thursday, in a house committee hearing, they spoke in support of the bill.
Wrap: The St. Louis Police Association says it has been forced to choose the best of the worst.
|Description: "If we could, we would keep it together the way it is today."|
That was the Vice President of the Police Association, Joe Steiger after testifying in favor of local control.
He says billionaire Rex Sinquefield is ready to back a ballot initiative for St. Louis to control its own police department that could repeal chapter 84.
And the Police Association says they can't let chapter 84 be repealed because it contains officer's benefits.
|Description: "It's in our best interest. The responsible thing for us to do to try to protect our membership to try to protect the benefits for families."|
And in this bill, Chapter 84 is guaranteed to stick.
The bill passed the House Committee by a vote of 6 to 1 and now heads to the house floor.
