Health Care Committee approves motion to further restrict late term abortions

The House Health Care Committee approved a bill to further restrict late term abortions.

Wrap: The Committee passed the bill by a vote of nine to one.

The only vote against ....... was St. Louis County Representative Margo McNeil.

McNeil says the bill puts hospitals in danger.

Description: "I felt that the penalties that were being assessed on doctors and on hospitals were very severe."

McNeil said provisions in the bill would allow hospitals to be sued for the actions of individual doctors.

President and CEO of Planned Parenthood St. Louis, Paula Gianino, agreed with McNeil.

Gianino also says the bill in unnecessary, because post viability abortions already only occur when there is a medical emergency.

Representative Margo McNeil says she voted against the bill because it would allow hospitals to be sued if a doctor misinterprets viability.  Both McNeil and Gianino agree the bill needs to protect doctors.
