Description: "The public saftey officers receiving this accomodation put their own lives at great risk on behalf of their fellow Missourians, they come from around the state and their actions occured on Missouri highways, homes, raging floodwaters and on broken ice on a frozen lake.

Each year Governor Nixon awards seven Medal's of Valor to someone serving in a public agency as a firefighter, law enforcement officer or emergency personnel.

The Medal of Valor Review Board recommends public safety officers for the award. 

Governor Nixon refused comments with the press at the ceremony.

Wrap:  Among the seven public officers awarded the Medal of Valor was officer Isabella Lovadina, the first woman to receive the award. 

Nixon awarded officer Lovadina for her bravery during a home invasion-robbery where she risked her own life in an attempt to save others.

Missouri Department of Public Safety's John Britt introduced Lovadina with her heroic story.

Description: "Despite the fact that she was off duty, unarmed, without regard to her own safety she attempted to disarm one of the gunmen to protect the others, as she struggled with the gunmen, she was shot several times."

Despite Lovedina's attempts, one of the victims died.

The public safety officers came from across the state to meet in Governor Nixon's office at the State Capitol to receive their awards.
