Wrap: Two bills were prefiled in the Missouri House of Representatives to make the ban placed months ago on text messaging while driving effect drivers of all ages.

Southeast Missouri Representative Linda Fischer says the potential to create an accident while texting and driving is not age relevant.

Actuality:  FISCHER.WAV
Run Time:  00:11
Description: "You can't target just those people that are 16 to 21 because that means if you're 39 or 49 or 59 that impairment is consistent with texting not with your age."

Jefferson City Representative Mark Bruns (BR-UHH-NS) says he is not completely sure he could support a bill that focuses on just text messaging.

He says there are many other things that can distract a driver's attention as well.

Wrap: The ban placed just months ago could extend to affect drivers of all ages.

Two bills were prefiled on the issue for the next legislative session.

Jackson County Senator Matt Bartle says he didn't like the age restriction in last session's bill, but this year looks more promising.

Actuality:  BARTLE.WAV
Run Time:  00:15
Description: "I think that a 25-year-old or a 45-year-old are just as distracted while driving if they are texting as someone who is 18."

Jefferson City Representative Mark Bruns (BR-UH-NS) says he does not think he could support a bill dealing with text messaging while driving because he feels it is already covered under the careless and imprudent driving law.
