Republican Representative Ed Emery is sponsoring a bill that would eliminate income and franchise taxes, and raise sales tax by less than one percent.

Actuality:  EDEMERY2.WAV
Run Time: 00:04
Description: "It's not a tax cut, it's not a tax increase, it's a change in the form of taxation."

If the bill passes, Missouri would be the first state to get rid of income taxes.

Emery says the new tax system would attract businesses to Missouri and create jobs.

An advocate of Partnership for Children, Carrie Shapton, disagrees and thinks businesses will leave Missouri for other states with lower sales tax.
Actuality:  SHAPTON1.WAV
Run Time: 00:07
Description: "An increase in the sales tax charging parents an additional 500 to 1,000 dollars a year is simply something they cannot afford."

The bill is waiting to be voted on by Ways and Means committee.
