The Missouri GOP sent out its state government top dog to respond to Jay Nixon's first address to the state.

Lieutenant Governor Kinder expressed the GOP's biggest concern with Nixon's budget proposal: relying on federal funds that have not yet been given out.

Actuality:  REBUT6.WAV
Run Time: 00:13
Description: The governor has proposed a state budget built around the hope of a federal bailout. What if these dollars don't arrive? What if we don't get nearly as much as expected? Can we really spend our way back to prosperity?
Kinder also criticized the governor for cutting or reducing funds for 50 government programs.

Lieutenant Governor Kinder offered the Republican response to Tuesday night's State of the State Address.

Kinder said federal funds are not the answer to Missouri's budget crisis.

Actuality:  REBUT7.WAV
Run Time: 00:04
Description: A budget based on a one time bailout is no. . . long. . . term. . . plan.

The GOP's only statewide elected official also attacked Nixon for putting on hold a contract that would create an emergency radio system for firefighters and police.

The same kind of system he said was missing on September 11th.
Actuality:  REBUT5.WAV
Run Time: 00:12
Description: Many firefighters lost their lives because they never heard the police warning that the building was beginning to crumble. At this very moment, we have the same communication problem in many parts of our state.

Governor Nixon's proposed budget reduces or gets rid of 50 government programs.

Governor Jay Nixon's first state of the state address Tuesday night was rebutted by the GOP member whose office is down the hallway from his own.

Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder attacked Nixon saying the Governor's budget plan was not an acceptable long term solution.

Actuality:  REBUT8.WAV
Run Time: 00:07
Description: We need an enduring vision for our state's economy. Not a budget, propped up on debt that will have to be paid back our children and grandchildren.
In addition to eliminating more than 1,300 jobs, Nixon said he plans to balance the state's budget with a federal bailout package that has not yet been approved by Congress.

Kinder said he wants to know what the governor will propose, then, if Missouri does not get the amount of bailout funds Nixon expects.
