This year, Missourians can expect a check from the federal government and the proposed bills would make it impossible for Missouri to tax that money. The Missouri Department of Revenue says there is no need for the law. An official from the deparment explained the refunds are not considered income, so they are already exempt from any possible state tax. Senate Minority Floor Leader Maida Coleman says a statement by the Revenue Department is not enough to keep Missourian's money safe.
