Intro: Republican opposition slowed down legislation of a bill that would require diesel fuel sold in the state to contain at least 5-percent bio-diesel.
A bill would require diesel fuel terminals in Missouri to include bio-diesel and bio-diesel-blended fuel beginning January 1, 2010. But a couple Republican critics said that the bill would divert from food to energy production. Kansas City area Repulican Senator Matt Bartle says that this bill will take the food prices that are already high even higher. Sponsor of the bill Senator Bill Stouffer says this bill will create new in-state jobs in bio-diesel manufacturing. But continued debate stalled a Tuesday vote on the proposal. From Jefferson City, this is Suvro Banerji.
