Intro: Missouri's House Crime Committee was urged Tuesday afternoon to block sex offenders from college dorms. Erika Navarrete (Nahv-ah-rett) has more from Jefferson City.
Page said this measure is modeled after a similar law in Illinois. The committee took no immediate action on the bill. There was no testimony in opposition. From Jefferson City, I'm Erika Navarrete.The measure would require public universities to search the state's sex-offender registration list for each dorm applicant.
The measure is sponsored by St. Louis County Democratic Representative Sam Page.
Under committee questioning, Page acknowledged that the search requirements could lead to application fee cost increases. But he argued the cost would be minimal.
