Police Force Hearing Cancelled Again

State Capitol Bureau
Links: HB 2117

Intro: For the second week in a row, the hearing of a bill that would allow the city of Saint Louis complete control over its police force has been cancelled.

For years, large numbers of legislators have raised objections about the city's complete authority over its police force.

After Tuesday's hearing cancellation, this issue has, once again, failed to progress.

St.Louis Democratic Representative Talibdin El-Amin is sponsoring the bill.

He cited weather as the latest reason for it's postponement.

Actuality:  ELAMIN.WAV
Run Time: 00:15
Description: "Hazardous road conditions and weather conditions of those people who were wishing to testify -coming out of Saint Louis. We wanted to give them every opportunity to show their support and give every opportunity to those who may, potentially, be opposed."

The future date of the hearing is not set in stone but is tentatively scheduled for next week.

Description: "My intention is that it gets the proper hearing and the maximum input. So, we want to definitely be considerate of the safety of those people and take into consideration the level of support of opposition, to have them be part of the process."

The future hearing date is tentatively scheduled for next Tuesday.
