Missouri Guard gains two battalions, 890 soldiers.

Intro:  After meeting and exceeding recent recruitment goals, the Missouri National Guard decided to form two new battalions.

Ben DeMeyer (DEE-my-er) has more from the state capitol.

The larger of the two new battalions will be a 810-soldier infantry battalion stationed in various locations throughout the state.

The smaller battalion will be a medical headquarters in Jefferson City.

Captain Tamara Spicer says the expansion is possible because of the current strength of the Guard.

Description: We have filled all of the existing positions in the Missouri National Guard, we are currently over 100 percent strength.

 

The new infantry battalion will be the first in the state since 1974.
