Intro: St. Louis County Democratic Representative John Bowman returned to the state Capitol Thursday for the first time since being indicted for bank and credit fraud. Micah (MIKE-ah) Wiener (WINE-er) reports from Jefferson City:
Representative Bowman says he will not resign his position, but his fate as a member of House committees is up in the air. Bowman currently serves on two committees, including the Budget committee, which determines the allocation of state funds. House Speaker Rod Jetton says it's up to Democratic Leader Jeff Harris to decide whether Bowman should serve such an important committee. Harris says it is too early to consider whether Bowman should be removed from the committee. Bowman spoke with two reporters Thursday, but offered no comment to KMOX. He says he will be exonorated and will not resign from the House. Democratic leader Jeff Harris says it is important not to jump to conclusions. Bowman's spot on the House Budget committee is in question after the indictment, but House Speaker Rod Jetton says it is up to Harris to decide whether Bowman should remain on the committee.
