Lt. Governor Opposes Closing of Major St. Louis Highway

MoDot's plan to shut down parts of Highway 40 in St. Louis meets opposition from the Lt. Governor.

More than one-hundred seventy thousand cars travel Highway 40 everyday in St. Louis.

But that may change if Modot's plan goes through to shut down parts of Highway 40 from Spoede Road to Sarah Street.

Lt. Governor Peter Kinder wrote letters to MoDot Director Pete Rahn and the Missouri Highway Commission in protest of the closing.

Contents: I think what we've got to communicate to the public the idea of closing Highway 40 for the next three and half years is completely unacceptable.

Kinder suggests a different option that would maintain two lanes of traffic in each direction and limit other closures to late nights and weekends.

The Missouri Department of Transportation is looking at an option to close down Highway 40 in St. Louis over the next three years for construction.

Lt. Governor Peter Kinder says the move would be deterimental to local businesses.
