Senator Michael Gibbons says he wants to cut committees that no longer are needed

Senator Michael Gibbons says it's time to tidy up in the Senate and get rid of some committees.

Amy Becker has more from the state capitol.

Gibbon's bill will cut certain committees and commissions including the Missouri Seismic Safety Commission and the Suicide Prevention Advisory Committee.

Gibbons says he's cutting the committees because they have not met in a long time and there is no longer interest in them.

Gibbons says if anyone thinks a certain committee is important or is not finished with their work, they need to come forward to be reinstated.

A bill sponsored by Senator Michael Gibbons will trim the fat off of the amount of committees and commissions in the Senate.

Reporting from Jefferson City is Amy Becker.

The reason for cutting the committees is a lack of interest and the fact that many have not met in a long time.

Gibbons says there is also a lack of membership in many of the committees and he can not find any other people to serve in them.

Gibbons says most of the committees were created to deal with an important issue at the time but now the issues are not as relevant.
