The Missouri Senate has put a bill regulating abortion on hold for now.

The Senate shelved a bill that would make it harder to get an abortion.

The bill is targeted at anyone who helps a minor get an abortion, allowing lawsuits against those people.

It is also aimed at doctors who perform abortions, requiring them to be within 30 miles of a hospital where they can operate.

The bill's strongest opponent, St. Louis County Senator Joan Bray, says women will suffer under the proposal.

Contents: No bureaucrat should be telling a woman what to do with her reproductive choices...whether or not she has children, whether or not she uses family planning, what family planning she uses...no bureaucrat should be telling them what to do.

Supporters of the bill say they are trying to protect women.

Lawmakers can keep debating the bill before the session ends Friday evening.

From the state Capitol, I'm Victor Roberto.
