Democratic Legislators Push Laws to Restrict Violent Video Games

Video games are at the top of State Democrats' agenda.

Bente (BEN teh) Birkeland reports from Jefferson City.

House Democrats are proposing a new law that would prevent minors from buying violent or sexually explicit video games.

At a press conference, Jeff Harris, the House Minority Leader from Columbia explained the initiative.

Harris says he's hopeful Gov. Blunt will support the bill, nicknamed, rated "P" for parents.

He says he plans to discuss the details with the Gov. later this week.

If House Democrats get their way, children in Missouri won't be buying R-rated video games.

The state of Illinois is considering a similar proposal.

Minority leader Jeff Harris, from Columbia says the video game industry should have the same standards as the movie and music industries.

Harris says he doesn't expect much resistance to his proposal from Gov Blunt.

Video games received another hit when Gov. Blunt said he plans to ban all video games for inmates in state penitentiaries.
