Blocking the Name Change Failed: Bill now moves to the House

Students will now have to be more careful when they say the go to college at Missouri. Dan Frumson has more from the state Capitol.

Dispite Senator Graham's attempt to filibuster, the Senate bill changing the name of Southwest Missouri State University to Missouri State University passed by a 2/3 majority. The bill's sponsor, Republican Norma Champion of Springfield, thanked University of Missouri officials for helping to end the dispute.

"I would also like to thank Dr. Floyd and Dr. Kaiser who were willing to deal with this issue at the time when we were nearing the end of the filibuster in allowing some resolution to be brought to this issue."

Senator Champion also rejoiced that the bill will now move to the House.

Although the university name change passed, Senator Chuck Graham says Governor Blunt is not in touch with important issues for all of Missouri's citizens.

"The issues that he brings forward are those that are important to Springfield. And he is spending all of his political capital on a name change for his community where he represented when he was in the House. He's now the Governor of the State of Missouri. There are bigger issues that he should be bringing forward."
