Jacob says there is no substitute for experience in politics

Ten Missouri senators can't run for reelection in November because of term limits, but that would all change under a joint resolution heard by a Senate committee. Cliff Judy has more from the state Capitol.

Ken Jacob, the sponsor of a resolution to repeal term limits, says he doesn't care that his resolution is unlikely to be passed this legislative session.

Jacob, who is term-limited, says repealing term limits is the right thing to do and there's no harm in letting the voters decide.

Contents: Jacob says, "Put it on the ballot. What's the difference one way or the other? Either they want it or they don't. It's not like it's going to cost any more money to put it on the ballot because we're going to have a ballot anyway. They're putting a lot of other stupid things on the ballot."

But opponents of Jacob's resolution say term limits are good because they lead to more women and more minorities in the legislature. From the state Capitol, I'm Cliff Judy.

But Ken Jacob says limiting how long legislators may serve means too many new, inexperienced legislators are in office.

Contents: Jacob says, "That's not a good things for collective group decision making. It's better to know the group and have experience with the group, the product is always better, than when a bunch of strangers get together for the first time and try to make a group decision."

St. Louis Senator Anita Yeckel, who is also term-limited, supports the resolution because she says experience is hard to come by in the legislature.
