Senate Committee to vote if Elson Floyd can be both University President and MU Chancellor.

Some state legislators want University System President Elson Floyd to stop working double-duty as the MU Chancellor. Lindsay Shively has the story.

Sen. Sarah Steelman from Rolla says she does not want University System President Elson Floyd to take over as MU Chancellor when current Chancellor Richard Wallace retires this summer.

Steelman says she is worried that the other three campuses will suffer when competing for funding, but Kansas City area Sen. Matt Bartle says combining the positions is a smart move.

Floyd has said that he'd rather have a seperate chancellor for each campus, but that's not possible given recent funding cuts. From the State Capitol, I'm Lindsay Shively.

The Chairman of the Senate Education committee says the committee will vote next week on a bill to ban Elson Floyd from becoming MU Chancellor as well as University System president. Lindsay Shively has the story.

University President Elson Floyd has discussed the possibility of becoming MU Chancellor when current chancellor Richard Wallace retires this summer. Some state legislators say they want to stop that from happening. Sen. Rita Days says she is worried about the actions of future presidents if Floyd is allowed to become the chancellor of the Columbia campus.

Supporters of the bill say the other campuses may suffer when competing for funding. Opponents say the University system needs the $250,000 saved from not hiring a new chancellor. From the State Capitol, I'm Lindsay Shively.
