The issue is the elderly prescription drug program that will expire the end of next year.

Maxwell chairs the program, but said he opposes a special session to keep it alive:

Contents: "I think that we have the same cast of characters in the Missouri House. Catherine Hanaway, the Speaker, the leadership there, failed to even allow this bill to have debate last year. There's no reason that I believe that those things would have changed."

Maxwell will push for quick action when the new legislative body convenes in January.

While opposing a special session on the drug program, Maxwell said he did support a mid-September special session to address the bankruptcy of the Unemployment Compensation Fund.
