Hearing to be held on anti-abortion legislation

February 18, 2004

State Capital Bureau

The day after pro-choice activists gathered to lobby at the capital, hearings were held on a decidedly pro-life bill.

Rachel Schaff has the details.

Majority Floor Leader, Representative Jason Crowell, is sponsoring a bill that prohibits the use of public funds to support health and social services programs that subsidize abortions.

Crowell says no programs or organizations will be affected if the legislation passes because Missouri eliminated all family planning funding.

Contents: As budget cycles change and as things go forward into the future I think this legislation will be a good safeguard to making sure that taxpayers don't directly or indirectly subsidize abortion.

This bill is identical to another bill considered last year that passed in the house but not in the senate.

From the state capital, I'm Rachel Schaff.
