Missourians gather around State Capitol to honor veterans

Outside the Missouri State Capitol, over a 100 people gathered to honor Veteran's Day. Megan Clarke was there.

TODAY IS DAY OF THANK-YOUS. IT'S BECAUSE OF ALL THE MEAN AND WOMEN SERVING THAT WE CAN GATHER IN PEACE TODAY.

After the rain cleared, over a hundred people gathered in front of the Capitol in Jefferson City to give thanks to the men and women who served. Rev. John Kerr gave the invocation.

THAT'S WHAT MAKES THIS COUNTRY STRONG, BY GETTING INVOLVED AND BEING WILLING TO TAKE A RISK. WE PRESERVE EACH OTHER AND ARE WILLING TO DO WHAT IT TAKES TO TAKE CARE OF EACH OTHER.

While family and friends of soldiers paid tribute to their loved ones, this day is especially meaningful to veternans like Bob Vader.

IT'S A REAFFIRMENT OF WHAT WE SET OUT TO DO SO MANY YEARS AGO. IT JUST REINFORCES IT ALL BACK INTO OUR MINDS AGAIN.

He served in World War II at the age of 18.

IT WAS ALL NEW TO ME. BUT THERE WERE A LOT OF 18 AND 19 YEAR OLDS THERE WITH ME AND WE ALL LEARNED TOGETHER. I WAS FORTUNATE TO COME BACK, WHERE A LOT OF THEM DIDN'T.
