Top house democrat will resign leadership position and run for state treasurer

The top democratic in the house will resign his leadership post and will run for state treasurer in '04.

House democratic leader Mark Abel says he with only one possible term left in the house, he started to consider his future political career.

Abel has been criticized by other democrats for not being as forceful a leader as possible.

Abel broke with party lines when voted to overturn the governor's veto of the concealed weapons bill during the fall veto session.

Abel says the treasurer's office would be a good place for him to continue working on some of the issues he championed in the house:
