Final quarter design unveiled

Announcer Intro: Three men paddling a snub-nosed boat down a river with the Gateway Arch in the background will represent Missouri on quarters nationwide. Jason McLure has that story from Jefferson City.

Selected from among five finalists, the coin garnered two hundred and seventeen thousand online votes.

First Lady Lori Hauser Holden, who oversaw the selection process, said Missouri's "Corps of Discovery" coin is one the state can be proud of.

But Paul Jackson, the Columbia artist who designed it, objects to alterations the US Mint made to his plan and says it's unfair a Mint engraver gets to put his initials on Jackson's design.

Beyond that, Jackson says the arch in the final design is misshapen and the explorers look like they're paddling uphill.

But Missourians won't get to spend their own two bits until August, when the coin is put in circulation.
