Missouri organizations want the people to decide the fate of transportation funding.
Sonya Harper has more from Jefferson City.
Several Missouri business organizations have drafted an initiative petition to increase transportation funding.
They are petitioning to increase fuel and sales tax to pay for highway improvements.
If the petition is successful the measure would be placed on the ballot for Missouri voters.
Transportation committee chair Senator Morris Westfall says i t is the legislature's responsibility to handle this issue.
Senator Westfall sponsors a similar bill and is optimistic the legislature will be successful in dealing with the transportation issue.
