The Missouri House Judiciary Committee passed the Family Leave Act for state workers and the bill is now headed to the House floor for a vote.
Representative Byrd has high hopes for this bill that promises employees sick leave without penalty.
The Family Leave Act also proposes workers can return to work without losing any pension or position they held before their leave.

Extended sick leave will actually save employers money, according to some House Republicans.
The Family Leave Act allows workers to take unpaid leave and still keep their jobs.
The bill works by cutting the cost of new employee training, since current workers will still be on the payroll.
Representative Byrd of Kirkwood says this money-saving move will also boost production in the workplace.
