The state's fiscal situation is slightly better tham initially anticipated.
Missy Shelton has this report from Jefferson City.
It could've been a lot worse.
That's the message from the state's budget director Brian Long.
He says the governor won't have to withold any more state money in the current fiscal year which ends July 1st.
It's Long's job to guide state lawmakers as they consider how much money they have to work with in the budgeting process.
He says he wants them to look critically at all state expenditures and possibly eliminate some state jobs.
Experts at the national level predict an improvement in the nation's economy.
But Long says it may take a while for Missouri to see feel the benefits of a national recovery.
Next Wednesday, Governor Bob Holden will give his State of the State Address. He's expected to outline his spending priorities at that time.
