Missouri's state government threatens to withhold funding from public universities and colleges.
Kellie Applen has the story in Jefferson City.
As part of the state's proposed budget cuts, Missouri's public colleges were told to prepare for the posiblity that they may not receive funding for the months of May and June until the end of summer.
Tom Allen, a spokesman for Southwest Missouri State Unviversity, said the school has instated a mid-year tuition hike to help ease the affects of the proposed budget contstraints.
Allen said that the tuition hike will cover less than a quarter of the anticipated four million dollar deficiency.
