Missouri Republicans want to ban human cloning

You can clone sheep in Missouri but you may not be able to clone your next door neighbor...Michelle Wirth has more from Jefferson City.

A bill in the Missouri House would make cloning illegal. Violators could face up to twenty years in prison. Representative Carl Bearden says that humans shouldn't play God when it comes to cloning.

Contents: It's a moral and ethical issue. I think that part of creating life is not left to us as human-beings, in creating life artificially, as cloning would be.

First sheep were cloned, then mice, but not humans...at least not in Missouri. Michelle Wirth has more from Jefferson City.

Missouri Republicans want to make human cloning illegal in the state of Missouri. They introduced a bill banning human cloning. Minority Caucus Chairman, Blaine Luetkemyer, says that the scientific community should not be allowed to clone human-beings.

Contents: It's the feeling of folks like myself who have introduced House Bill number 718 that this is not appropriate, that we're playing God. This is a pro-life issue and we're very very much opposed to putting ourselves and the scientific community where they can do this type of work.

If the bill passes, violators could face up to twenty years in prison.
