MoDOT prefers widening I-70 rather than building a new roadway

A proposal to make I-70 more user friendly is met with anticipation in Jefferson City...Erin Guyer has more from the State Capital.

Travel along I-70 will be under special scrutiny for the next year, as the Department of Transportation seeks to improve the 40 year old highway. MoDOT has released it's current proposal to widen the existing roadway, an option that is preferred over an earlier proposal to construct a new I-70. MoDOT's Director of Project Development, Dave Nichols, says the costs for widening the existing I-70 and building a new road are comparable.

Despite similar costs, widening is preferred due to envrionmental and relocation concerns associated with building a new highway. From Jefferson City, I'm Erin Guyer.
