While Democrats pushed to put the trust fund issue on the November ballot, Republicans debated for August. The parties talked about how voter turn-out is better in November because of elections, but the major debate was politics.

St. Louis Republican Jon Dolan questioned the political implications behind the date, but Democrat Ralph Monaco claimed there wasn't any.

After the debate, the proposals to amend the date were withdrawn and they still haven't voted on the bill. Reporting from the State Capitol, I'm Jessica Carter.
