For weeks, polls have shown neither Bob Holden nor Jim Talent with much of an edge in the gubernatorial race.

But, Holden may have found his niche in an eighth grade class at LaSalle Middle School. He won that poll with 38 percent of the vote to Talent's 25 percent.

Republican spokesman Darrel Duwe says the poll shows another side of Holden's campaign.

Contents: Duwe says the straw poll shows the desperation of the Holden camp. To find a poll he is winning, he has to go to an unscientific straw poll of eighth graders.

About one hundred fifty children and parents took part in the poll, according to Kim Baldwin, spokeswoman for the Holden campaign.

The forum gave Holden an opportunity to promote his support for public schools.
