Ballpark Debate Sneaks Into Budget Debate on Senate Floor

A budget discussion on the floor of the Senate had a suprise guest today (Wednesday) - debate on funding for the new stadium in St. Louis. Kyle Elfrink has the story from Jefferson City.

Things were moving along normally in the Senate during a budget discussion. Then, Senator Sarah Steelman of Rolla attacked the proposed plan to allow St. Louis to use state sales tax to subsidize their new ballpark.

Contents: STEELMAN SAYS RURAL AREAS WOULD LOVE TO BE ABLE TO ALSO USE THEIR SALES TAX FOR THEIR OWN USE, BUT SHE SAYS THEY DON'T HAVE THE POWERFUL LOBBYISTS LIKE ST. LOUIS.

After about five minutes of heated debate, the Senate moved on and continued their discussion on the budget.
