House Republicans want smaller school districts

The loss of accreditation in the Kansas City School District has House Republicans expressing worry.

Contents: He says that the state has to take action to correct the problem and may have to do the same in St. Louis if St. Louis loses its accreditation next year.

The Republicans are saying the issue should be a top priority.

Democrat Rodger Fitzwater is Chair of an education committee. He says that a new superintendant and the end of the courts involvement may fix the problem in Kansas City, but is taking a wait and see approach.

Shields says that St. Louis is headed toward the same fate as Kansas City's school district.

The Republicans have proposed a bill to divide Kansas City's school district, they want a hearing to discuss their proposed bill as soon as possible.

Democrat Rodger Fitzwater says a hearing will be held in early February and dividing the district will be discussed.
