William Clay Sr.'s son Filed for the Seat in Congress that his Father has Held for 32 Years

With a busload of some 40 supporters chanting in support of him, Missouri Senator Lacy Clay filed for the seat in Congress his father has held for the past 32 years.

The last 16 times the seat for St. Louis's first Congressional district has come up for election it has been won by William Clay Sr.

His son, William Lacy Clay Jr. has served for sixteen years in the Missouri government. He says he has worked all his adult life to prepare for this next step.

Contents: He says he is ready to assume the mantel of leadership his father assumed for the last three decades.

To win the seat the younger Clay will have to beat three other Democratic candidates in an August 8th primary and top Republican Richard Soluade.

On the first day to file for next year's elections, five candidates entered thier names for St. Louis's first Congressional district. The district held by William Clay Sr. for the past 32 years.

The most notable name on the list of candidates is the son of William Clay, William Lacy Clay Jr.

The younger Clay has been serving in state offices for the past sixteen years.
